Getting Ready

Getting ready for your new puppy!

What you will need:

1. Crate:  One that is expandable and grows with your puppy.

2. Washable or disposable towels, blankets or rugs.  Newspapers come in handy too.

3. A exercise pen that can be set up around the puppy's crate so the pup can go in and out of the crate.  

4. Suitable bowls for food and water and toys to occupy your puppy.

5. Appropriate collar and leash.

6. ID: if you pup is not tattooed or microchipped, have identification on the pups collar.  

Grooming supplies

1. Clippers for ears, underbelly and tail (#10 blade)  and for the coat (#5 blade) works well if you plan on grooming yourself.

2. Slicker brush

3. Greyhound metal comb

4. Nail clippers

5. Mat splitter

6. Straight scissors

7. Shampoo (click here for recipe for homemade shampoo)

8. Cotton balls to clean ears (use a solution of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water)

Remember your puppy is like a small child and are very curious...they put everything in their mouths.

   Remember, get down on your hands and knees and look at your house from your puppy's point of view.  What looks tempting for a puppy?  What is within your puppy's reach?  Make sure you put everything away!
